President Tinubu Sends 65 Ambassadors To Foreign Missions, UN

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorized the deployment of 65 ambassadors to Nigerian diplomatic missions across the globe, among them a significant appointment to the United Nations.

The announcement was made on Friday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the new envoys comprise 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career appointees, all of whom had earlier received Senate confirmation in December.

Among the non-career ambassadors, prominent appointments include Grace Bent to Togo, Ita Enang to South Africa, Victor Ikpeazu to Spain, and Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu to Israel. Others are Mahmud Yakubu to Qatar, Reno Omokri to Mexico, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas to the Philippines, Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau to China, Olufemi Pedro to Australia, and Lateef Kayode Are to the United States.

Additional postings include Joseph Sola Iji to Russia, Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Canada, and Ayodele Oke to France. Non-career envoys to other nations include Yakubu N. Gambo (Saudi Arabia), Nora Ladi Daduut (South Korea), Joe Okocha (Ireland), Kulu Haruna Abubakar (Tunisia), and Jerry Samuel Manwe (Trinidad and Tobago).

For career diplomats, the President approved postings such as Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Côte d’Ivoire, Maimuna Ibrahim Besto to Niger, Monica Okwuchukwu Enebeli to São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria.

Other career appointments include Ahmed Mohammed Monguno (Egypt), Jane Adams Michael (Jamaica), Alexandra Clark-Omeru (Zambia), Geoffrey Lioma David Chima (Mali), and Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah (Equatorial Guinea).

Further assignments cover Segun Ige (Lebanon), Ruben Abimbola Samuel (Italy), Ogechukwu Kingsley Onaga (Mozambique), Umar Magaji (DRC), Muhammad Saidu Dahiru (India), Abdussalam Habu Zayyad (Senegal), Shehu Ilu Barde (Ghana), Aminu Nasir (Ethiopia), Abubakar Musa Musa (Chad), Haidara Mohammed Idris (Netherlands), and Bako Adamu Umar (Morocco).

Other postings include Sulu Gambari Olatunji Ahmed (Malaysia), Romata Mohammed Omobolanle (Tanzania), John Shamah Shaga (Botswana), Hamza Mohammed Salau (Iran), Ibrahim Danlami (Kenya), Adeola Mopelola Ibrahim (Benin), Emmanuel Adebayo Ayeni (Belgium), Wahab Adekola Akande (Switzerland), Esther Arewa (Namibia), Joseph John Gergadi (Gabon), Luther Ogbomode Ayo-Kalata (Sierra Leone), Danladi Yakubu Nyaku (Sudan), and Haliru Bello Dogon-Daji (Thailand).

The presidency confirmed that the United Kingdom has granted agrément to High Commissioner-designate Aminu Dalhatu, while France has approved Ambassador Ayo Oke.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has submitted the nominations of the remaining 62 ambassadors to their host countries for formal agrément, in line with diplomatic procedures.

President Tinubu also directed that induction programmes for all ambassadors and high commissioners-designate commence immediately to prepare them for deployment.
