President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Tuesday, briefly stumbled during a ceremonial reception held in his honour in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey.
The incident occurred as Tinubu joined a guard of honour alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the parade ground.
A short video footage from the event showed the president missing his step and falling before he was immediately assisted to his feet by security operatives.
Despite the brief disruption, the presidency said the programme continued as scheduled, with both leaders proceeding to a closed-door bilateral meeting after the ceremony.
Tinubu arrived at the Turkish presidential palace in a black limousine, where a military band played Nigeria’s national anthem, followed by the Turkish national anthem.
After the renditions, President Erdoğan was seen adjusting Tinubu’s position to face the band properly.
Tinubu departed Abuja for the state visit to Turkey on Monday.
According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the visit is aimed at strengthening existing ties between both countries.
He said the trip would focus on deepening cooperation in key sectors, including security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation, while finance, communication, trade, and investment would dominate diplomatic engagements.
During the visit, both countries are expected to sign several Memoranda of Understanding covering areas such as energy, military cooperation, and scientific research.
