Presidential Poll: Oke Optimism Of 16 Million Votes For Buhari In South-West

Due to various thumb printing issues that was resulted into cancellation of over forty seven thousands (47,000) votes during the last gubernatorial election in Osun State, the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole has urged Nigerians not to repeat such mistake in the coming Saturday and March 2, elections.

As Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of Joint Association of People With Disability, Prince Paul Adelabu boasted that about 10 million people with disabilities across Nigeria will cast their votes for President Muhammad Buhari during the Saturday’s presidentially election.

Adewole gave the advise while addressing thousands of 54 Buhari/Osinbajo Support Groups, which endorsed the duo for re-election and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) members at a one-day summit organised by Buhari/Osinbajo South West Campaign Organisation.

While urging Nigerians not to exercise any fear in the Saturday’s elections, the health minister urged them not to allow what happened such as double thumb printing and double voting in Osun where over forty seven thousand votes (47,000) were recorded as void votes to repeat itself.

Adewole who counsel the audience to wait for some minutes after they had casted their votes before they fold the ballot papers, said that folding the ballot papers without allowing the ink to dry may allow the ink to split over to another box which may lead to double voting.

He said to avoid what happened in Osun last year during its gubernatorial election, all voters must be patience enough and ensure that the ink in the box where they had casted their votes dry.

Adewole while insisting that voters should look carefully to ascertain that they cast their votes in the required boxes of their favorites political parties, advised them to use index finger to cast their votes.

According to him, “Don’t repeat what happened in Osun state last year to happen. You will recall that 47, 000 votes were cancelled during the last election in Osun state.

“When you vote, wait for some minutes, let the ink dry before you fold it if you must fold it. It is worrisome that 47,000 votes were cancelled in Osun state last year. You can see the margin. It is too much.

“On Saturday, use your index finger, this finger, it is called Ika Ilabe. It is used to draw soup while you are eating. We will use it to draw soup. Use your index finger to cast your votes.

“South West has benefited  much from Buhari government. Apart from the fact that we have the Vice President, we must not allow any other zones to take it away from us. We have some ministers that have not been given to the South West since independence”.

Prince Adelabu on his part said  about ten million people with disabilities, who are registered voters have kept their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) ready to vote for Buhari in appreciation of the Disability Bill that the President signed into law on January 23, 2019.

Adelabu maintained that people with disabilities will forever be grateful to President Buhari, because successive administrations before him, including former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Late Umoru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan, refused to signed the Bill.

According to him, “Even people with disabilities who don’t have thumps have decided to use their toes to cast their votes for President Buhari, because of the Disability Bill. The Bill is our life, we will vote massive for the President for signing the Bill”.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Director General of Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation (South West), Chief Olusola Oke (SAN) urged members of the support groups to go and mobilize Southwest voters for the re – election of President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Oke, who said the conspiracy to take away the Vice President slot away from the Southwest and give it to the Southeast should not be allowed to work out, appealed to the people of the region to vote massively for Buhari.

“We should retain the front seat we currently occupy in the national government. PDP wants to take away the Vice president slot from us and give it to the Southeast. We should not allow this to happen, and the only way we can ensure this is to vote massively for Buhari and Osinbajo.

“Fortunately for us, we have about 16 million votes here in the Southwest, the Southeast in which PDP has zoned the Vice president slot to has only 9 million votes. Is it possible for the zone with 9 million votes to take away what belongs to a zone with 16 million votes?

“So, go to your various units and  ensure that maximum votes are returned to the President. We in the Southwest have every reason to return PMB. The government has treated us well. The government has given the zone prime and juicy appointments”.

At the summit tagged “2019 elections summit” held at the ancient Mapo Hall were Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State who was represented by his Executive Asistant (Political Matters), Dr. Morounkola Thomas, APC Zonal Sectary (South West)), Mr Ayo Afolabi, Director of Protocol and Public Relations, 2019 APC Presidential Campaign Council, South And West, Princess W. Oladele and other APC leaders and supporters from the six states in the region.
