
There was a protest in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Tuesday following the sudden death of a student who was on his way to write the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination before he was shot dead by the Police.
A student was fatally shot by police in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Tuesday while en route to his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination, sparking a protest.
An eyewitness reports that Police officers were in a high-speed pursuit of a fleeing vehicle suspected to be ‘Yahoo boys’ when an officer opened fire, and the bullet struck and killed the student.
It was gathered that the tragic incident occurred on the Akala Express, Gbagi Market Road.
The student was said to be on a motorcycle with his twin brother when the Police bullet missed its target and hit him.

The student was quickly taken to Welfare Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
In response to the tragedy, market traders and sympathisers started a protest and brought the boy’s remains to the Oyo State Secretariat, demanding justice.
It was reported that security personnel have been stationed at the entrance of the government secretariat to control the crowd, while protesters called for accountability and reform in police protocols.
