The House of Representatives has issued a summons to National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu and the country’s service chiefs to appear before it amid growing concerns over the deteriorating security conditions across Nigeria.
The resolution was passed during plenary on Tuesday following the adoption of a motion sponsored by the lawmaker representing Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency of Zamfara State, Sulaiman Gumi.
The lawmakers expressed concern over the continued wave of killings, kidnappings, bandit attacks, terrorism, and other violent crimes across the country despite repeated assurances from security agencies and the Federal Government.
The House directed Ribadu and the service chiefs to appear before lawmakers to brief them on efforts being made to tackle insecurity.
The summons followed growing public outrage over recent attacks on schools in Oyo and Borno states, where dozens of pupils, teachers, and school workers were abducted by armed groups.
Lawmakers said the briefing would help the House assess the current security strategy and determine further legislative action to protect lives and property.
