Residents Hails Sanwo-Olu’s Intervention On Ishawo Road

Residents of Agric, Ishawo, Konu and Asolo communities in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area of the State have commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for mobilizing the contractor handling the 7km Agric, Ishawo, Konu, Asolo Road project back to site to do palliative works, noting that the initiative has helped to remove the gridlock previously experienced by the commuters on the road.
The commendations were made when a team of engineers from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure led by the permanent secretary, Engr Olujimi-Hotonu went on an inspection visit to the road on Tuesday.

Speaking on the state of the road in a statement by Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Mr Adesegun Ogundeji, the Secretary of the road committee, Ishawo Community Development Association (CDA), Mr. Abiodun Sunday explained that the heavy downpours this year damaged several portions of the road, making it impassable for several months before the palliative works was done by the present administration. This road was a tale of woes before the interventions. He enthused.
Mr. Sunday recalled that the governor had during his visit to the affected communities during campaigns promised to prioritize all the work projects in all the 5 Administrative Divisions of the state, adding that, “this good palliative works and the mobilization of the Hi-Tech construction company back to site is an indication that the governor is an affectionate and listening governor, he is a man of his words, we are very happy. As you can see that the palliatives have made the road to be motorable now, the gridlock has disappeared, many thanks to the governor” Sunday expressed happiness.
A motorist who plies the road, Mr Siraj Adeniran also spoke to the journalists at Odo-Afa, which he described as a black spot, noting that the intervention has tremendously improved the condition of the road. He noted that Odo-Afa had for long over flown into the road and made it impassable for commuters. He observed that the light dredging and sand filling done by the contractor brought sanity back to the road. He appealed to the state government to sustain the palliative works throughout the rainy season.
Adeniran, a community leader praised the governor for continuing with the project awarded by the previous administration. He opined that the 7km Agric-Ishawo Asolo road project, when completed would improve commercial activities in the area, reduce crime rate, traffic induced health challenges and cost of repair of vehicles.
Speaking in the same vain, Mr. Bolaji Olomola a resident revealed that the condition of the road was worse before government interventions. He noted that at a time, motorists were forced to park their vehicles at home for fear of damage at critical areas.
Expressing gratitude to the state government for prioritizing the road, he said “we thank the governor for this palliative work, and we know he will continue the real project very soon after the rains. Hi-Tech Engineering has been wonderful too and we urge them not to compromise standard in the choice of the materials for the road”.
While briefing the press on the road project, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Eng. Olujimi Hotonu explained that the 13.6km was awarded to Messrs Hitech Construction Company Limited in 2017 and was divided into 3 phases.
Phase 1 of the project which covers Agric, Ishawo, Asolo and other communities is 7km which has recorded 95% demolition and removal of illegal structures and shanties within the right of ways on both sides, relocation of services 50% site clearance 80%, and scarification of the existing Asphaltic Surface99% among others
Engr. Hotonu who expressed satisfaction with the quality of job done stated that, the road upon completion will serve as an alternative road to the present Ikorodu road. It will connect the town and other adjoining communities to Lagos – Ibadan Expressway, permanently abate flooding on the road and the communities along the corridor, increase property value and economic activities along the road.
