Rivers: Gov Sim Fubara Arrives Port Harcourt Airport

Following the lifting of the emergency rule in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, Governor Siminalayi Fubara was warmly received by supporters upon his arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, on Friday.

Fubara’s aircraft touched down at about 11:55 am, with hundreds of his loyalists waiting eagerly to receive him.

Excited chants filled the air as the governor stepped off the plane, marking his first appearance in the state since his reinstatement.

President Tinubu had on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, announced the suspension of the six-month emergency rule declared in Rivers following the protracted political crisis between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In the statement, Tinubu directed Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to resume their duties with immediate effect.

While lawmakers reconvened at the Assembly Quarters on Thursday to hold their first plenary session since the emergency was lifted, Fubara was notably absent from the Government House, where his supporters had gathered in anticipation of his return.

The governor’s arrival at the airport, however, quelled speculations over his whereabouts and set the stage for his formal resumption of office after months of political tension.
