The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a series of tweets via his verified handle on Twitter ordered the re-opening of worship centres in the state.
“I am happy to announce the progress we are making in our fight against #COVID19 and the current decline in cases. In view of this, we have taken the decision to reopen places of worship from August 7 for Muslims, and August 9, for Christians with 50% of their regular capacity” one of the tweets reads.

As part of continuous efforts to curb the spread of the disease, the Governor noted that mosques and churches will be allowed to open only at 50 percent of their capacity while attendees over the age of 65 are strongly discouraged from attending worship services.
The governor also said that churches whose main worship days fall on Saturdays, are permitted to hold their services on Saturdays, subject to the same guidelines as churches holding services on Sundays. He however emphasized that places of worship are only permitted to have their regular once-a-week services on the designated days.
While we try to ensure that life gradually returns to normal, we implore residents to continue to use face masks in public spaces and adhere strictly to all the public health safety measures and guidelines.— Babajide Sanwo-Olu (@jidesanwoolu) August 1, 2020
