The Senate has approved amendments to the Electoral Act designed to reinforce the legal framework governing federal, state, and area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
The passage followed a detailed clause-by-clause consideration of the proposed law by lawmakers during plenary, after the chamber resolved into the committee of the whole.
The bill seeks to amend existing provisions of the electoral act to address emerging challenges in the conduct of elections and improve electoral processes across the affected jurisdictions.
The approved legislation is expected to be transmitted to the house of representatives for concurrence before it is forwarded to the president for assent.
