
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Senator Barinada Mpigi, has passed away.
Mpigi died on Thursday at age 64.
His death was confirmed by a member of the House of Representatives representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency of Oyo State, Hon. Akin Alabi.
Posting on X, Alabi wrote: “Good night my dear friend. Rest in Peace, Senator Mpigi Barinada.
Sen Mpigi represented Rivers South East in the Senate. He was the Chairman, Senate Committee on Works.”
Born on June 23, 1961, Mpigi represented Rivers South-East senatorial district until his death.
He was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2011 and was re-elected for a second term in 2016.
In 2019, he won election into the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party to represent Rivers South-East.
During the Ninth Assembly, Mpigi chaired a joint Senate committee set up to investigate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
