Ekpa was found guilty of participating in the activities of a terrorist group, inciting the public to commit crimes for terrorist purposes, engaging in aggravated tax fraud, and violating the Lawyers Act.
The judges found that he supplied these groups with weapons, explosives, and ammunition, and encouraged followers on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) to commit crimes in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has warned against attempts to link Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based Nigerian, to its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB noted that Ekpa had on previous occasions distanced himself from its activities and did not identify with them.
IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said recent reports linking Ekpa to its leadership were misleading and inaccurate.
