Some People Falsely Told Tinubu I Wanted Him Dead – Shettima

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has revealed that certain individuals made deliberate attempts to drive a wedge between him and President Bola Tinubu just three months into their administration.

Shettima said the unnamed individuals, whom he identified as people from Borno State, told the President that he was plotting to kill him and take over power.

The Vice-President made the disclosure at the launch of My Life of Duty and Allegiance, the autobiography of former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, in Abuja.

According to him, the allegation was linked to some clothes he had given Tinubu before the 2023 presidential election.

Shettima said the President invited him after receiving the claim, but dismissed the allegation because the story did not make sense.

He stated, “Three months into our swearing in, some people told Tinubu I was planning to kill him to take over power.

“The President had called me and said, ‘Sit down! Your people came to me and said, ‘ Stop wearing those Shettima’s clothes.’

“But the President said their story did not add up. He said when you gave me those clothes, I was an aspirant. I would not have been the candidate, neither were you going to be Vice-Presidential candidate.

“Some people told him after election that I was planning to use the clothes to kill him and take over. However, Tinubu wore the clothes after that because he is not fetish.”

The Vice-President said the incident showed the danger of divisive politics and falsehood. He advised Nigerians to embrace unity and live as one another’s keepers, rather than promoting suspicion and division.

Shettima urged citizens to reject those he described as merchants of division, saying the country needed trust and togetherness to move forward.
