Sowore Rushed to Hospital After Collapsing Mid-Protest

Prominent human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore was reportedly rushed to the hospital after he collapsed amid a clash between police officers and demonstrators at Abuja’s Unity Fountain.

The incident occurred on Friday during a Democracy Day protest against insecurity, economic hardship and what demonstrators described as poor governance.

Vanguard Newspaper reports that, witnesses said the protest, which attracted activists and civil society groups, was disrupted after security operatives deployed teargas canisters to disperse the gathering.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that chaos broke out as protesters scampered for safety amid clouds of teargas.

Sowore was reportedly affected by the fumes and later lost consciousness during the confusion.

Supporters and fellow activists rushed to his aid and evacuated him from the protest ground.

Sources close to the activist said he regained consciousness while being moved away from the scene in a vehicle.

Following the incident, Sowore was reportedly taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical examination and treatment.

The development heightened tension at the protest venue as demonstrators condemned the police action.

The protesters had gathered to demand urgent action on rising insecurity, economic hardship and governance challenges in the country.
