Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a dominant 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 at the Complexe Sportif de Fès. This commanding performance successfully propelled them into the quarter-finals.
Ademola Lookman’s 20th-minute goal set the early and persistent dominant tone for the Super Eagles in Fez. The goal, a purposeful finish to a well-executed move, sparked immediate celebrations among the Nigerian fans.
Five minutes later, Victor Osimhen doubled the advantage, latching onto a pass from Akor Adams and steering the ball home with authority.
Mozambique struggled to stem the tide as Nigeria continued to press with confidence and control. Osimhen struck again shortly after the restart in the 47th minute, capitalising on another incisive delivery to make it 3-0 and effectively put the tie beyond reach. The Super Eagles were relentless, rotating the ball crisply and breaking lines with ease.
The fourth goal arrived in the 75th minute and crowned a dominant evening. Akor Adams finished calmly after being teed up by Lookman.
Substitutions followed as Nigeria managed the game professionally, with Moses Simon, Paul Onuachu, Samuel Chukwueze, Raphael Onyedika, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru all introduced to maintain intensity in the second half.
Mozambique made changes of its own in search of a response, but Nigeria’s defensive unit held firm. Calvin Bassey and Wilfred Ndidi were cautioned, though the bookings did little to disrupt the Super Eagles’ rhythm as they recorded their first hat-trick at the AFCON 2025.
The emphatic win means the Super Eagles of Nigeria advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face either Algeria, winners of Group E, or DR Congo, runners-up in Group D.
