The Executive Commissioner Stakeholder Management at the Nigerian Communications Commission, Sunday Dare, restated the imperative for all citizens to safeguard telecommunication infrastructure across the country because they are critical national assets.

Dare stated the above at a Regional Stakeholders Parliament organised by NCC to engage with relevant state agencies in charge of telecommunications matters which took place in Yola, Adamawa State today.

Al-Kassim Umar, Head Compliance Monitoring at the Commission who spoke in Dare’s stead recalled that the Miscellaneous Provisions of the Criminal Justice Act and the Cybercrimes Act both of 2015, prescribe severe penalties, including imprisonment for those who wilfully destroy telecoms Infrastructure because of the strategic importance of such infrastructure to the effective functioning of the economy.

Dare also urged all licensees to comply with all legitimate tax and other obligations binding on them anywhere they operate because compliance is a central element of the telecom industry Code of Corporate Governance.
