Students and staff were abducted from St. Mary’s School in the Papiri community of Niger State’s Agwara Local Government Area by suspected terrorists. The exact count of those kidnapped has not yet been confirmed.
A source confirmed the attack to Daily Trust on Friday, saying the school is still compiling its records.
“Yes, it is true, but I am not in a position to give details. The church will issue an official statement later in the day,” the source said.
Attempts to reach the Niger State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, could not take his call when contacted.
The attack adds to a recent surge of abductions in northern Nigeria, coming just days after terrorists struck a government school in Kebbi State, kidnapping at least 25 students.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on rescue operations or the current status of the victims.
