President Bola Ahmed Tinubu left Lagos on Wednesday and made his way back to Abuja, having joined in the Eid-el-Fitr festivities that marked the conclusion of the Ramadan fasting period.
The President’s return to the Federal Capital Territory followed his recent state visit to the United Kingdom.
The development was disclosed in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
He said Tinubu’s aircraft departed from the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 6.44 p.m.
“President Tinubu returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom in the early hours of Friday and participated in the Eid-el-Fitr prayers held at Dodan Barracks,” the statement said.
During his stay in Lagos, Tinubu held meetings with several political and diplomatic stakeholders.
Onanuga disclosed that the President received 23 governors, including Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
He also hosted a delegation from the European Union, as well as members of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC).
The statement further revealed that Vice President Kashim Shettima travelled to Lagos to brief the President on his recent trip to Borno State, following the latest suicide bombing in the state.
Several political leaders and government officials were present at the President’s residence and at the airport ahead of his departure.
Among them were Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Ogun State Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Also present were Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, senior government officials, and party leaders.
