Tinubu Leaves Abuja for Brazil, Japan, Makes Stopover in Dubai

President Bola Tinubu left Abuja on Friday for a two-nation official visit to Japan and Brazil. He will also make a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

PUNCH Newspaper reports that  the President left the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at exactly 11:15 am, accompanied by top government officials who turned out to bid him farewell.

Those present included the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Before boarding the presidential jet, Tinubu exchanged handshakes and pleasantries with the dignitaries lined up to see him off.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had announced on Wednesday that Tinubu would leave Abuja on Thursday. However, the departure was rescheduled to Friday.

Onanuga explained that the President’s first destination will be Yokohama, Japan, where he will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) from August 20 to 22.

Beyond the plenary sessions at TICAD9, Onanuga said Tinubu will also hold bilateral meetings and engage with the chief executives of Japanese firms investing in Nigeria.

After the Japan engagement, the President will proceed to Brasília for a two-day state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
