Tinubu Mourns General Slain in Boko Haram Attack

President Bola Tinubu has conveyed profound grief over the fatal attack on a group of soldiers by Boko Haram terrorists at a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State.

Suspected terrorists had attacked the camp of the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, in the early hours of Thursday, killing an unspecified number of military personnel.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Michael Onoja, said the “coordinated terrorist attack” occurred at about 12.30am.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu condoled with the military authorities and families of the fallen soldiers, urging them to remain strong despite the loss.

The President commended the courage of the troops, noting that they fought bravely to repel the terrorists and stop them from overrunning nearby communities.

“From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained land and air offensives against the insurgents, neutralising many of their fighters and commanders. The insurgents’ counterattack is a sign of desperation,” the statement read.

Tinubu also paid tribute to the slain soldiers, including Brig.-Gen. Oseni Omoh Braimah, who was said to have died in the attack.

“I extend my condolences to the families of our gallant soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of our country today in Borno State.

“The government will never forget their sacrifices. Their sacrifices will not be in vain. Because of the courage and dedication of our troops on the frontline, our resolve to defeat terrorism and all forms of violence across Nigeria is stronger than ever,” he said.

The President called on Nigerians and the media to support the military’s campaign against insurgency and banditry, warning against narratives that could weaken troop morale.

“These soldiers are our heroes, unforgettable and irreplaceable,” Tinubu said.

He assured that the Federal Government would continue to equip the armed forces and prioritise the welfare of personnel.

Tinubu also extended his condolences to the Borno State Government and the people of the state, while pledging continued collaboration to restore lasting peace.
