  1. Wike Mocks Amaechi, Says His Presidential Ambition Is Finished Without ADC Ticket

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the presidential aspirations of former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi are no longer viable.

Amaechi, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition coalition determined to wrest power from President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 poll, came second after in the 2022 APC presidential primary won by ex-Lagos governor Tinubu.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Tuesday, Wike, a former Rivers State Governor, said Nigerians won’t give Amaechi a chance in the 2027 election, adding that his predecessor won’t get the ADC ticket for the 2027 poll.

He said, “He (Amaechi) knows he won’t get the ticket. I read that he said he knows the weaknesses of the president, so he knows how to defeat him, but he also knew the weaknesses of the president in 2022 when the president defeated him mercilessly in the primary.

  1.  NCAA Orders Phones Off During Take-Off, Landing, Bans Airplane Mode

The NCAA (Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority) has mandated that all mobile phones must be completely turned off during both flight take-off and landing.

The Director General of Authority, Capt. Chris Najomo, stated this during a stakeholders’ meeting themed “National Civil Aviation Security Committee Meeting” in Abuja on Tuesday.

He declared that all passengers must now completely switch off electronic devices during flights, ending the long-standing “flight mode” practice.

  1.  NCAA Invites Comfort Emmanson, Ibom Air Crew Over Mid-Flight Dispute

Ibom Air‘s cabin crew member, Juliana Edward, and the passenger involved in last week’s controversy aboard one of their flights, Comfort Emmanson, have both been summoned by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for further investigation.

The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, Michael Achimugu, confirmed the development during a question-and-answer session at the Emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Stakeholders’ Meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.

“I have spoken with Ms. Emmanson this morning. We are also inviting the Ibom Air cabin crew for continued investigation on the incident. They will be here tomorrow,” Achimugu said.

  1. Police Recover ₦6.9m Ransom, Firearms as Kidnappers’ Escape Fails in Nasarawa

An accident in Angwan Mayo, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, on Monday morning, August 18, 2025, thwarted a gang of suspected kidnappers shortly after they had collected ransom from their victims.

According to reports, the suspects were fleeing in an Opel Vectra—registration number Plateau BLD 566 ST—when the vehicle lost control near a Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) checkpoint and crashed. The two occupants fled immediately, abandoning the car at the scene.

A vigilant VIO officer initially recovered a G3 rifle and cash from the wrecked vehicle and handed them over to the police. The vehicle was towed to the police station where a thorough search yielded more arms and money: one AK-47 rifle, one Type-06 rifle, another G3 rifle, three magazines, and 57 rounds of live ammunition, alongside approximately ₦6.9 million in cash.

The Oore of Otun-Ekiti and paramount ruler of Mobaland House, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo, has refuted claims that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, named anyone as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland.

The Oore of Moba, while stating that Ooni does have the power to confer the title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland, said the traditional ruler has not made such an appointment.

The position comes in response to the purported appointment of a businessman, Dotun Sanusi, as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland.

  1. Oyebanji Recalls Sacked Ekiti Commissioner

The Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reinstated Taiwo Olatunbosun as Commissioner for Information.

This comes barely a week after he dissolved the state executive council.

The reappointment was confirmed in Ado-Ekiti through a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, on Tuesday.

  1. Chieftaincy Title: ‘Forget 48 Hours, Ooni Won’t Reply Alaafin’s Empty Threat’ – Palace Aide

The Spokesperson for Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Moses Olafare, has dismissed as an empty threat the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade. The threat was directed at his principal regarding the reversal of a title bestowed upon Dotun Sanusi, a prominent Ibadan-based business mogul.

In a statement by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the monarch asserted that the Ooni lacks the exclusive right to confer the chieftaincy title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland on the businessman.

He fumed that the Ooni’s action challenged his authority, adding that the exclusive right to confer titles that extend across Yorubaland rests solely with the Alaafin.

  1. US Makes Social Media Disclosure Mandatory for Nigerian Visa Applicants

The United States Government has said Nigerians must disclose all their social media presence in the last five years before applying or be denied a visa.

The US government made this demand known to Nigerians in a post by the United States Mission in Nigeria on its X handle on Monday.

  1. Boko Haram Founder’s Son Arrested

The son of Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf, has been apprehended in Chad. He was reportedly leading a jihadist cell there.

AFP security sources have confirmed that Muslim Mohammed Yusuf, believed to be 18 years old, was arrested alongside five other suspected insurgents during a raid by Chadian security forces.

Although Chadian police confirmed the arrest of six Boko Haram members, they did not immediately verify if one of them was the son of the late extremist cleric.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, issued a 48-hour ultimatum on Monday to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, demanding the revocation of a chieftaincy title bestowed upon businessman Dotun Sanusi.
