Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, has refuted claims that he insulted the Alaafin of Oyo during his visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi at the weekend.
Reacting to reports sparked by comments he made at the Ooni’s palace on Saturday, Igboho insisted that his words were misinterpreted, stressing that he regarded the Alaafin as a father figure and a foremost monarch in Yorubaland.
In a viral video on Saturday night, Igboho said, “My father, the Olugbon, called me and said the Alaafin felt I insulted him when I visited the Ooni. I want to make it clear that I never abused the Alaafin. I can’t and I won’t. The Alaafin is not a small monarch in Yorubaland. I am from Oyo, and the Alaafin is my father.”
The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, has been cautioned by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) that its proposed remuneration for political office holders could escalate inequality and incite public unrest. This warning follows weeks after RMAFC Chairman, Mohammed Shehu, expressed his concerns.

A 50-year-old widow and fashion designer, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over attempt to traffic 1.3 kilograms of cocaine, using fake pregnancy as a façade to escape scrutiny and detection.
The widow, who is a mother of one and proprietress of Golden Star Creation, a fashion outfit in Ago palace way, Okota, Lagos, was arrested at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba area of the state on Friday, 22nd August 2025, while attempting to move the cocaine consignment to customers in Abuja.
A follow-up operation at her house in the Ago Palace area led to the recovery of 200 grams of cutting agent used in the production of a strain of cocaine. In her statement, Ezewuike claimed she inherited the criminal trade from her husband, who died two years ago, while she has been in the fashion business for 20 years.
The Lagos State University, LASU, has issued a warning to its staff and students regarding the annual Oro festival rites. The Oniba of Iba, Oba (Dr) Sulaimon Adeshina Raji-Ashade, announced that these rites will take place during the day and on workdays.
The development was confirmed in a notice sent to staff and students by the university, which added that the rites would last for nine days.
According to the statement, the rites would be observed on Monday (tomorrow) between 9:30 am and 11 am.
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to stop the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) from implementing a pay rise for political and public office holders, labeling it as “unlawful and unconstitutional.”
The group insisted that any increase in the salaries of the president, vice president, governors, deputies, and lawmakers would be unjustifiable, given the current economic realities.
In a letter dated August 23, 2025, and signed by its deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP urged Tinubu to personally reject the proposal and encourage other political leaders to do the same.
