President Bola Tinubu on Monday welcomed Petrobras’s imminent return to Nigeria, five years after Brazil’s state-owned oil company halted its joint venture operations.

At a joint press conference in Brasília during his State Visit to Brazil, President Tinubu said Petrobras’ return would reignite economic cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries.

“We have the largest gas repository. So I don’t see why Petrobras doesn’t join as a partner in Nigeria as soon as possible. I appreciate President Lula’s promise that this will be done as soon as possible,” he said.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Bashir Ojulari have stated that international syndicates are exploiting security vulnerabilities to steal crude oil throughout Africa. He also recommended strengthening national and continental security.

He also suggested the need to enhance national and continental security architecture to address the challenge.

Ojulari submitted on Monday while speaking at the opening of the Africa Chief of Defence Staff Conference held in Abuja.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South. This decision comes ahead of the party’s November elective convention, with the current National Working Committee (NWC) zoning arrangement remaining in place.

The decision was taken at the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday at the national headquarters in Abuja.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the decision followed the presentation of the zoning committee’s report, chaired by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has mandated that all candidates applying for admission in the current cycle must re-upload their 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

The directive was issued in a statement on Monday via the official bulletin shared by JAMB on its X handle.

The statement noted that the directive concerns candidates who previously uploaded their results before the updated WASSCE and those who had yet to upload any results.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF) has criticised the comment made by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding its meeting on Saturday in Gusau, Zamfara State.

In a statement following its Saturday meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, the forum, through its Director-General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, expressed that the ADC should have demonstrated greater empathy.

The ADC had on Sunday condemned the recent killings in Zamfara and Katsina States, especially the attack on worshipers, calling for the declaration of a state of emergency in the two states.

  1. NDLEA Nabs Drug Kingpin, 5 Others Over 3 Nigerians Arrested in Saudi

A 55-year-old drug kingpin Mohammed Ali Abubakar alias Bello Karama and five members of a syndicate operating at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) Kano have been taken into custody by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following the discovery that they are behind the shipment of illicit substances for which three innocent Nigerians who went on lesser hajj pilgrimage to the holy land were being detained in Jeddah for alleged drug trafficking.

This was disclosed at a press conference addressed by the Agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, along with the Director of Assets and Financial Investigation, Dr. Abdul Ibrahim, and Director of Prosecution and Legal Services, Theresa Asuquo, at the NDLEA National Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, 25th August 2025.

Explaining how the syndicate implicated three unsuspecting pilgrims in drug trafficking allegations in Saudi, the NDLEA said following receipt of complaints by its Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) from three Nigerian families over the detention of their family members in Saudi Arabia after the completion of their lesser hajj pilgrimage on an allegation of trafficking in illicit substances into Saudi Arabia, an investigation was launched to unravel what happened.
