The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Tinubu administration’s plan to spend over ₦712 billion on the renovation of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
In a statement issued by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, the party questioned whether the renovation plan and its associated cost had received approval from the National Assembly, describing the expenditure as reckless and insensitive.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) strongly condemns the outrageous ₦712 billion airport renovation project announced by the Tinubu administration as another brazen act of fiscal recklessness and official insensitivity, which further confirms how far this APC government is removed from the reality of the suffering people of Nigeria.
It is hard to understand how expending ₦712 billion into renovating an airport that already received significant upgrades in recent years makes fiscal sense in a country where public universities wallow in chronic austerity, where basic medical care, has become a luxury that only the rich can afford, where millions of Nigerians have been thrown into poverty as a result of government’s ill-conceived policies.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has asserts that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is employing outdated strategies and will therefore be unable to mislead Nigerians in anticipation of the 2027 elections.
Keyamo stated this while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, describing the ADC tactics as a 419 format.
Keyamo further stated that the ADC tactics of reeling out figures, picking out isolated incidents and using them for generalisation were deceptive political methods that would ultimately fail.
He said, “They know us very well, and we also know them very well. They are not strangers to us.
“And some of these tactics they are using are what is called 419. It was what I used to prosecute people as EFCC prosecutor.
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has urged President Bola Tinubu to commit more resources to the National Social Investment Programmes to combat poverty in Nigeria.
Falana, in a statement on Sunday, said the amount allocated by the government in addressing the social needs of the people pales in comparison to what the federal government allocates to projects that may not have a direct bearing on the well-being of the citizens.
The lawyer spoke against the backdrop of the recent call by President Tinubu, who urged governors elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform to ensure they work hard to deliver development at the grassroots.
He warned that Nigerians were dissatisfied with the pace of governance and the tangible benefits of democracy.
Speaking at the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC at the State House Centre, he called on the governors to “wet the grass more” for greater impact in communities across Nigeria.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan met with former Military President General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (Rtd), better known as IBB, on Sunday in a closed-door meeting at IBB’s Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State.
It was gathered that former President Jonathan arrived at Babangida’s Minna home at about 4.15 pm and left at 5.07 pm on Sunday.

Former presidential candidate and media mogul, Dele Momodu, has asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC), the current ruling party, has a greater number of disaffected politicians than the recently established opposition coalition.
Momodu, a known supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, made the remark in an interview shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday.
Speaking on criticisms from APC members who labelled the opposition coalition as a gathering of disgruntled politicians, Momodu dismissed the claim as “dishonest and misleading.”
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, to immediately reverse the “arbitrary and unlawful decision” to revoke Badeggi FM Radio’s license.
In an open letter dated August 2, 2025, and signed by its deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP urged the governor to reinstate the station’s licence, withdraw threats to demolish its premises, and end what it termed a crackdown on freedom of expression and media rights in the state.

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted consignments of cocaine and tramadol 225mg concealed in 71 vehicle side mirrors being sent to Libreville, Gabon through the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja Lagos, with not less than three suspects linked to the cargo already arrested in follow-up operations.
The first batch of the consignment, consisting of 57,420 pills of tramadol 225mg and 57 pellets of Cocaine weighing 1.60kg, was intercepted in a cargo going to Gabon on Air Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday, 19th July 2025. A popular cargo agent, Ihekweme Osinachi Benedict, handling the shipment, was immediately arrested, after which further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, Uzochukwu Godspower Chukwurah, on Sunday, 20th July.
Eleven parcels of cocaine with a total weight of 1kg were later recovered from four additional side mirrors being prepared for export, found in the home of Uzochukwu on Monday, 21st July, bringing the total number of parcels of cocaine to 68 weighing 2.60 kilograms.
