An aide to Obi and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, in a terse statement on Tuesday, said that his principal and ADC bigwigs were under siege as they were attacked by an armed group in Benin City on Tuesday afternoon.
According to him, they were attacked at the formal declaration of Olumide Akpata to ADC when armed individuals followed the group from the ADC Secretariat to the residence of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) before he ditched the party.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially accepted the resignation of Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun, submitted on grounds of pressing family matters, and subsequently designated Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to assume the role in an acting capacity.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu accepted the resignation today.
Onanuga said he expressed his profound appreciation for Egbetokun’s decades of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation.
The Department of State Services (DSS) has taken into custody a sixth individual connected to the 2022 terrorist assault on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, an attack that claimed the lives of over 40 worshippers and left numerous others wounded.
A security source disclosed that the suspect, identified as Sani Yusuf, was apprehended in the Iguosa community, along the Powerline axis in the Ovia North Local Government Area of Edo State, after evading arrest for years.
According to the source, Yusuf had been on the radar of security agencies since the June 5, 2022, massacre at the Catholic church in Owo.
The Presidency confirmed on Tuesday that Kayode Egbetokun has resigned as Inspector-General of Police, citing pressing family concerns as the reason for his departure.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this while responding to an enquiry, noting that the ex-IGP tendered his resignation in a letter.
“The IGP resigned in a letter today, citing family issues which require his undivided attention,” he said.

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, arraigned a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria Edetanle, before Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, over alleged $385,000 and ₦165,438,000.00 fraud.
Edetanle was arraigned on a seven-count charge bordering on alleged abuse of office, money laundering, and unlawful enrichment by a public official.
The offences are said to contravene Sections 332(1) and 332(3), Section 73(1), and Section 82(c) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Central Bank of Nigeria‘s Monetary Policy Committee has made the decision to reduce the nation’s key interest rate, bringing it down to 26.5 percent.
The decision was announced on Tuesday by the Governor of the apex bank, Olayemi Cardoso, at the end of the MPC’s 304th meeting held in Abuja.

President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, disclosed the development in Lagos, confirming that a structured offtake agreement has been concluded with selected marketers to ensure nationwide distribution and eliminate supply instability.
“We have agreed an offtake framework to supply up to 65 million litres daily for the domestic market,” Dangote said. “Any surplus, estimated at between 15 and 20 million litres, will be exported.”
