The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has declared Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), persona non grata. This decision stems from Oshiomhole’s recent comments regarding the strike by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

He observed that, as things stand, there is too much power in the hands of a single individual in managing the affairs of INEC as well as the outcome of elections in the country, and this has to change.
Thousands of demonstrators in Kaduna on Monday staged a mass protest that brought traffic to a standstill in key areas. The protest aimed to support the Dangote Refinery, with participants accusing a powerful oil import cartel and certain labor movement factions of conspiring to undermine Nigeria’s domestic refining goals.
The march, organised under the banner of Partners for National Economic Progress (PANEP), was themed “National Unity Against Sabotage: Reclaiming Our Petroleum Sector for the People.”
Protesters called on the Federal Government to act swiftly to “protect the multibillion-dollar refinery from systematic attacks” allegedly engineered by vested import interests.
An application has been filed with the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to prevent former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Daily Post reports that a suit was filed on Monday by a legal practitioner, Mr. Johnmary Chukwukasi Jideobi, urging the court to issue a perpetual injunction restraining Jonathan from presenting himself to any political party for nomination as a presidential candidate.
The plaintiff also sought an order barring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or publishing Jonathan’s name as a candidate in the forthcoming election.
Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has urged for increased restraint in managing the dispute between Dangote Refinery and oil workers, represented by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
He stated that Dangote Refinery is a national asset that must be protected.
Speaking on Monday in Abuja at the Nigerian Economic Summit (NES31), Shettima minced no words when he declared that Aliko Dangote is more than an individual; he’s an institution.
