Nigeria’s inflation rate continued its downward trend in August 2025, marking the fifth consecutive monthly decline. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported a drop to 21.12% from July’s 21.88%.
The NBS Consumer Price Index, published on Monday, showed that the drop was primarily driven by a slowdown in food prices, which remain a key component of the inflation basket.
On a month-to-month basis, inflation eased by 0.74 per cent, while food inflation slowed to 1.65 per cent.

Speaking at a conference to mark the first anniversary of the launch of petrol from the 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery, Dangote highlighted that Nigerians have endured persistent fuel queues since 1975. However, this issue has been steadily resolved since the refinery commenced production on 3rd September 2024.
