INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement after the meeting in Abuja.

Olumekun said the meeting considered several electoral matters, including preparations for the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election, the Federal Capital Territory area council polls, and party primaries for the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections.

  1. Workers’ Strike Puts Nigeria at Risk of Nationwide Power Outage

Nigerians could experience new power outages due to an indefinite strike initiated by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) on Wednesday. The strike stems from unresolved welfare issues, including the failure to implement the national minimum wage and the alleged casualization of workers.

The industrial action was announced in a notice signed by NUEE’s Acting General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, who said the strike followed the expiration of the union’s ultimatum to the management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, has announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Olumide Adebiyi Adediran, a Nigerian man wanted for violating his conditions of release.

Adediran became a ‘fugitive’ when he fled the Central District of Illinois in late December 2001, shortly before his federal trial was scheduled to begin. He was facing multiple charges, including Bank Fraud, Identification Document Fraud, and Credit Card Fraud.

The federal charges Adediran faces, namely Bank Fraud, Identification Document Fraud, and Credit Card Fraud highlight his alleged involvement in financial crimes often linked to organized efforts to defraud institutions and individuals.

A human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, who heads a public interest law firm, has submitted a petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The petition calls for an immediate investigation into the financial dealings of the former Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.).

In the petition, which was signed by Adeyanju and addressed to the ICPC Chairman, the firm alleged that Rivers State received at least ₦283.3 billion under Ibas’ leadership between March 18 and September 17, 2025, excluding internally generated revenue.

According to data cited from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the amount included ₦36.6 billion in local government allocations for January and February 2025, previously withheld, as well as ₦246.7 billion in state and local government allocations between March and June 2025.
