Tottenham Fires Thomas Frank After Newcastle Defeat

Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with head coach Thomas Frank after Tuesday night’s 2–1 loss to Newcastle United at home, a defeat that left the club languishing in 16th place in the Premier League.

The North London side confirmed the decision in a statement shared on X on Wednesday.

“The Club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” the statement read.

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

“However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

“Throughout his time at the Club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the Club forward.

“We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

Frank joined Spurs last summer after a successful spell at Brentford, replacing Ange Postecoglou. His contract was due to run until 2028.

Despite early optimism, Tottenham’s form deteriorated sharply in 2026. The club have failed to win any of their eight league matches this year and sit five points above the relegation zone.

Frank leaves with seven wins, eight draws and 11 defeats from 26 league matches — a win rate of 26.9 percent.

Home form proved particularly damaging, with just two league victories in 13 matches.

The defeat to Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was widely viewed as the final straw amid growing pressure from supporters and the board.
