A former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has officially submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman position.
The forms were submitted at the PDP National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC)’s Secretariat in Legacy House, Shehu Shagari Way, Maitama, Abuja.
Turaki submitted the forms ahead of the November 15 and 16, 2025, Elective National Convention of the PDP set to hold in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Earlier reports suggest that Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a section of the National Working Committee (NWC) have picked Turaki as consensus national chairman ahead of the party’s elective convention in Ibadan on November 15 and 16.
The consensus move was reportedly spearheaded by Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), with Makinde also pushing for his ally, former Oyo State deputy governor Taofeek Arapaja, to emerge as National Secretary.
The development has, however, sparked opposition within the party, with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, faulting the decision, accusing Fintiri of announcing a consensus candidate without wider consultations.
Earlier on Monday, former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, expressed dissatisfaction over the failure to purchase a form to contest for the National Chairman position of the PDP.
Lamido had earlier, in a post on his verified Facebook page, declared his intention to contest for the PDP chairmanship position. However, he was unable to secure the form at the PDP National Headquarters on Monday.
Speaking with journalists regarding the development, the former Foreign Affairs Minister declared that he was prepared to contest for the party’s chairmanship at the November 15th and 16th elective National Convention, slated for Ibadan, Oyo State.
Lamido further vowed to head to the court if he failed to get the form.
The development is fast becoming another growing crisis for the PDP ahead of its planned National Convention and the 2027 general election.
