Upsurge In Entries As Deadline Nears For Promasidor Quill Awards 2014
As deadline nears for close of entries for the 2014 season of Promasidor Quill Awards, organisers of the awards disclosed that there has been upsurge in the number of entries by members of the pen profession who are entering their works for the awards. Entries for the 2014 edition of the Promasidor Quill Awards, which is being organized by Promasidor in partnership with Thompson Foundation will close on April 30, 2014.
According to Andrew Enahoro, Head, PR/Legal of Promasidor Nigeria Nigeria Limited, makers of Cowbell Milk and organisers of the awards, scores of journalists and photojournalists across the country are entering their works published between 1st April 2013 and now in droves. He added that journalists who are yet to join the fray still have the opportunity to enter their works published even up till April 30, 2014 the deadline for the awards.
“Entries for the awards have been overwhelming and encouraging, especially since the beginning of this month. There has been an avalanche of fresh and new entries,” says Enahoro, adding “The judges too are set for the enormous task of perusing the mountain of entries to award prizes to the best works in all the categories.”
It would be recalled that entries for this year’s edition of the awards was declared open by Chief Keith Richards (OBE), the Managing Director of Promasidor Nigeria Limited in September, 2013.
Now in its second year, the Promasidor Quill Awards was conceived by Promasidor Nigeria Limited as a platform to recognise and reward excellence in journalism profession. The partnership between Promasidor Nigeria Limited and Thomson Foundation is expected to take the Promasidor Quill Awards to a new level. To this end, the best overall entry for the 2014 Promasidor Quill awards will have the opportunity of participating in a five -week course in the UK.
While kicking off entries for this year’s edition, Chief Keith Richards (OBE) extolled the invaluable role of the media to the society and to the growth and sustenance of his company, Promasidor Nigeria Limited. “You all will agree the media is an important organ in the life of our society and the responsibility it plays in checking the pulse of different issues in our society is crucial but most times undermined. The role of the journalists that work hard on the field to research, source for accurate information and report them daily to millions of people each day is also often overlooked and taken for granted.
“Since we sold the first sachet of milk and grew our product brands across our dairy, beverage and food enhancement categories we have enjoyed and benefitted from the support of the media and committed journalists who have noticed our commitment and hard work. This year, Promasidor was 20 years last year and our success over the years has been driven by the dedication of the media to promote our quality consumer brands,” he said.
He explained that Promasidor conceived and launched the Quill Awards as a platform in Nigeria to reward journalists for dedicated news reportage in key areas such as Industry, Education, Corporate Social Responsibility & Nutrition issues all year round. “We are committed to continue to grow the awards as a professional platform of assessment, recognition and reward for outstanding journalistic work. These awards seek to remind journalists of the importance of their role in society and to society, the need to encourage professionalism and appreciate outstanding work,” he stated.
Chief Richards added that “Every journey starts with the first step and we have taken this step to reward excellent news reportage that informs, educate and responsibly shape public perception on topical issues and industry activities. The participation for the awards has been impressive for a maiden edition but we would love to encourage more participation from journalists across the nation this year. We were able to get our winners from a variety of entries in five different categories.”
In fulfillment of its promise to continue to grow the awards, the organisers, Promasidor Nigeria Limited, expanded the latitude of the Quill Awards to include two additional categories making this year’s edition seven categories.
According to Enahoro, the organisers took time to listen to the recommendations from the panel of judges, feedback from journalists and considered the growing media trend to improve the entry categories for this year. “We have increased the number of categories to accommodate more entries and particularly created one to encourage young and upcoming writers. This is mainly targeted at student writers and journalists that have their works published.”
The categories for the Promasidor Quill Awards 2013/14 season are as follows: Best Report on Nutrition, Best CSR & Industry Report of the Year, Education Reporter of the Year, Best Photo Story of the Year, Best Report on Children, Future Writer of the Year and Brand Advocate of the Year.
The 2014 edition of the awards is in tune with current technology trends. There is a new and improved website for the Quill awards (https://quillawards.promasidor-ng.com/index.php ) to collect entries and keep journalists informed through interaction and social media integration through the year.
