US Grants WFP $32.5M for Nigerian Food Aid

The United States Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in Nigeria by providing the World Food Programme (WFP) with a $32.5 million contribution. This vital funding will be used to deliver lifesaving food and nutrition assistance to families and individuals affected by ongoing conflicts in the country.

Supporting Displaced Communities in Conflict Zones

Nigeria continues to face humanitarian challenges, particularly in the Northeast and Northwest regions where insecurity has displaced millions of people. Many families in these areas struggle daily with food shortages, malnutrition, and limited access to essential services.

With this new contribution, WFP will be able to reach 764,205 beneficiaries across conflict-affected areas, offering them much-needed relief in the form of food assistance and nutrition support. The intervention is designed not only to address immediate hunger but also to help stabilize communities by reducing the impact of food insecurity.

Special Focus on Women and Children

The U.S. Government’s funding places special emphasis on vulnerable groups such as women and children, who are most at risk in times of crisis. Out of the total beneficiaries, 41,569 pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls as well as 43,235 children will receive complementary nutrition top-ups through electronic food vouchers.

These nutrition packages are critical in preventing malnutrition, improving maternal health, and ensuring that children under five years old can grow and develop properly despite the harsh realities of displacement and conflict.

Strengthening Food Security and Hope for the Future

The support from the U.S. Government reflects a continued partnership with Nigeria in tackling food insecurity and humanitarian crises. It also highlights the important role of international cooperation in saving lives, improving nutrition, and promoting resilience in vulnerable communities.

By working together with WFP, the donation will go a long way toward reducing hunger, protecting the most vulnerable, and giving hope to thousands of families who have been forced from their homes.
