The United States on Wednesday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rethink and reverse the ban placed on the popular microblogging platform, Twitter in Nigeria.
This was made known by a top American official and senior diplomat, and the current administrator of the US Agency for International Development, Samantha Power.
Power, in a tweet on her verified handle on Wednesday, wrote, “There are nearly 40 million Twitter users in #Nigeria, and the country is home to Africa’s largest tech hub.
“This suspension is nothing more than state-sanctioned denial of free speech and should be reversed immediately. #KeepItOn.”
Nigerian government had on Friday last week ban the operations of Twitter for deleting a tweet of President Buhari. Twitter in it’s response said it deleted the tweets for violating it’s rules.
