After a whirlwind transfer saga that saw him swap Napoli for Galatasaray, Victor Osimhen has taken to social media to declare his allegiance to his new club.
The Nigerian striker has deleted all traces of his former club from his Instagram page, replacing them with images and posts celebrating his move to the Turkish giants.
Osimhen’s decision to sever all ties with Napoli is likely a reflection of the acrimonious nature of his departure from the club.
The 25-year-old fell out with manager Luciano Spalletti and was eventually left out of the team’s pre-season preparations. He also missed the start of the Serie A season, with new boss Luciano Spalletti claiming that the striker was not in his plans.
Despite helping Napoli to their first Scudetto win in over three decades two seasons ago with 26 goals, which earned him the Serie A top scorer’s award, Osimhen fell out with some fans of the club during last season, pushing the 25-year-old towards the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium’s exit.
Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray represents a fresh start for the striker, who will be looking to prove himself at a new club and in a new league. He will be hoping to help Galatasaray challenge for the Turkish Super Lig title and make a mark on the European stage.
Osimhen is expected to play his first match for Galatasaray on September 15, when they take on Rizespor in a Turkish Super Lig fixture.
