Vice President Kashim Shettima has concluded his visit to New York, United States, where he headed Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) as the representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Shettima, who concluded his official engagements at the UNGA, will proceed to Germany before returning to Nigeria.
He was seen off at the John F. Kennedy International Airport by Cabinet Ministers in the Nigerian delegation and officials of the country’s mission in New York.
During his participation at the assembly, Shettima secured the commendation of the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, for Nigeria’s ongoing bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
The Vice President reiterated Nigeria’s long-standing commitment to multilateralism and stressed the country’s readiness to take up greater responsibilities on the global stage.
Shettima also used the platform to highlight Nigeria’s vast $200bn energy transition opportunity, urging global investors to partner with the country in delivering climate-friendly and sustainable energy solutions.
He said the government is determined to ensure that the transition becomes both an economic driver and a job creator for millions of Nigerians.

In addition to his UNGA engagements, Shettima met with top officials of the United Kingdom Government to strengthen ties on trade, defence, and migration issues.
He described the meetings as strategic steps toward diversifying Nigeria’s international partnerships and boosting investor confidence.

On the sidelines of the UNGA, Shettima also secured enhanced funding commitments from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Phase 2, a project designed to boost agro-industrial growth in 24 states.
That development underscored Nigeria’s efforts to leverage the global gathering to strengthen its economy and build strategic alliances.
