VP Shettima Visits Borno Bomb Blast Victims

Vice President Kashim Shettima paid a visit on Wednesday to survivors of the recent Maiduguri bomb blasts, who are currently undergoing treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) in Borno State.

The Vice President was accompanied on the visit by the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Hajiya Zubaida Umar.

Speaking to journalists after visiting the victims, Shettima commiserated with the Borno State Government, the people of the North-East, and families of those who lost loved ones in the attacks. He also prayed for the repose of the deceased and the quick recovery of the injured.

He condemned the attack and its perpetrators, stressing that no religion supports the killing of innocent people.

“We are here to commiserate with the government and people of Borno State, especially families of those who lost their loved ones in the attacks,” he said.

The Vice President reassured Nigerians that the government is committed to ensuring peace across the country.

He disclosed that NEMA, in collaboration with other agencies, would commence the distribution of medical supplies and relief materials to victims and affected families.

Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday arrived in Borno State, folowing the recent terrorist attack in the Northern state.

The military chiefs arrived at Maiduguri Air Force Base and proceeded straight to the Theatre Command Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI.

At the Air Force Base, the service chiefs were received by the theatre commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, and other top military brass at about 11 am.
