The 10th edition of the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) is happening this Saturday and the anticipation is high with predictions on who will win in each category. From the Best Scripted Series to the Best Unscripted Series, Best Writing TV Series, Best Scripted M-NET Original, Best Movie, Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, and the other categories, the competition is tight and has everyone on the edge of their seats.
In getting ready for the showdown, fans can catch up on some of the nominated titles available on Showmax.
In the Best Unscripted Series category, fans can watch The Real Housewives of Lagos S2, GH Queens, and Mutule Mwanza Unscripted S1. Getting an AMVCA nod for the second time in a row, RHOLagos brings glamour, influence, and drama through the iconic cast who do not hold back in delivering a show and giving the fans a lot to talk about. GH Queens, a stylish reality TV show tells the real-life drama of four ambitious women and their interactions within the Ghana entertainment industry. For Mutale Mwanza Unscripted Season 1, Mutale Mwanza who is both the star and executive producer of the series aimed to dismantle the misconceptions that some Zambians have about her by unveiling her true identity: a devoted mother and daughter and successful businesswoman.
Wura S2, Slum King, and Masquerades of Aniedo take center stage in the Best Writing TV series categories. Fans’ favorite and critically acclaimed series, Wura builds on the success of its first season, taking viewers deeper into the world of Iperindo as the titular character, Wura continues to navigate the treacherous waters of family politics, corporate intrigue, and personal sacrifice. Slum King sure earned a spot on the nomination list with its gripping storyline and gripping plot which delves into the world of survival and redemption. Masquerades of Aniedo delivered the epic tale of love, betrayal, and revenge set against the backdrop of an ancient kingdom. Helmed by acclaimed director Femi Ogunsanwo and featuring a stellar cast, the immersive series captivates audiences with its rich storytelling and breathtaking twists and turns.
Itura was nominated in the Best Scripted M-NET Original category. The series is a riveting drama that explores the interwoven lives of the inhabitants of Ibaokuta, a small Yoruba village. Show producer James Omokwe had to build the set from the ground up employing over 350 people behind the scenes, with more than 75% of the cast being relatively new faces in Nollywood. Slum King also got nominated in this category.
The Irabors’ Forever Ever, What Will People Say and Date My Family Zambia in the Best Unscripted M-Net Original category. The Irabor’ Forever Ever takes us on a journey with Betty and Soni Irabor as they celebrate four decades of love and partnership. With intimate insights into their journey, this heartwarming series is a testament to the enduring power of love and the joy of shared memories. What Will People Say is an in-studio blind date show where the studio audience gets the final say on who, out of six hopefuls, wins a date with an eligible single man or woman, known as the seeker. The reality dating series is a thrilling journey of romance and intrigue that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Date My Family Zambia is a reality TV show that follows young suitors from various parts of Zambia as they meet with different families of unknown potential partners.
