Aspirants for the upcoming Oyo state People’s Democratic Party (PDP) state congress who are from the camp of the party Stakeholders have accused the National Working Committee of setting up the state congress screening committee in secret, in order to exclude them from participating at the state congress of the party.
This was in response to why the aspirants from the camp of the party stakeholders were not at the venue of the screening, Mr. Femi Olaitan Hero, aspiring state Publicity Secretary of Party said the composition of state congress screening panel was made to work for other faction since the names and activities of the committee was not publicized on national newspapers and also kept in secret for party members which is against the party constitution.
Femi Hero who spoke to press on Sunday evening said, the screening committee for state congress in Oyo state was directed to be partial, adding that, none of the party stakeholders and their aspirants were aware that a screening committee had been set up by National and were in Ibadan on Friday.
“We only saw it on social media around 4pm on Saturday, as a result of that, party stakeholders issued a protest letter against the committee and sent to them, I took it personally to the set up screening committee at Molete, they collected the protest letter and after reading, told me to call our aspirants to come to the venue for screen but the committee left the venue less than an hour after, our people unable to meet up.
“It is unusual and contrary to PDP standard practice of publicizing Committee ‘s name in national newspapers or on PDP website for the information of all and sundry, the Oyo state’ state congress committee compositions have been kept secret thereby eroding the confidence of the generality of PDP members.
“Our leaders have no confidence in such a secrecy screening committee, so cannot subject us (the aspirants) to Screening by an unknown panel whose membership is shrouded in secrecy.
“It was reliably gathered that, everything is been manipulated from the office of the party National Organizing Secretary in Abuja, aided by Mr. Adeyemi Moyegun who is said to be working closely with governor Makinde.
“We wonder why the national party decided to screen one faction and neglected the other since they sold nomination forms to both of them.
“It is high time our party at the National woke up to this biased attitude, we are all entitled to equal rights in the party. Thou, they did well for us when they sent Senator Adolphus Ndaneweh Wabara to Oyo state to resolve the crisis that emanated during the Ward congress and his committee did well gave everyone a fair hearing”.
