We’ll Address Finidi’s Resignation After Eid-el-Kabir Holidays -NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has said it will not comment on the widely reported resignation of Super Eagles head coach, George Finidi from his position until after the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.

Finidi’s resignation letter addressed to the President of NFF, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and dated June 14, 2024, surfaced on social media last Friday.

He stated that his decision to throw in the towel after just four matches was a sequel to the plan by his employers (NFF) to hire a foreign technical adviser who would lead the team before the commencement of the next round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifying series.

The media have been awash with different reports on Finidi’s resignation from his post and his employers’ denial that he is still in their employment with Nigerians leaving to wonder what is going on in the Nigeria football circle.

Finidi’s resignation letter which has been pending at the Sunday Dankaro House headquarters in Abuja will only be attended to on Wednesday when work resumes across Nigeria after the Muslim Eid-Al-Adha celebrations otherwise called Sallah holidays, Prompt News report.

An official of NFF who pleaded anonymity revealed that Finidi’s resignation letter arrived after the close of work on Friday and will only be attended to when those who will make decisions on it resume work on Wednesday.

“I think the General Secretary’s office may have received it (Finidi’s resignation letter). But he, like other government officials has traveled now for the Sallah. NFF have not accepted or rejected it (letter). It will be treated after the holidays”, the official revealed.
