World Cup 2022: Croatia Defeats Morocco 2-1 To Secure 3rd Place

Croatia today struggled to a 2-1 win over Morocco in the third-place match of the FIFA 2023 World Cup in Qatar.

The Moroccans failed to find the formula for victory, even though they created a record as the first African country to make it into the semi-finals and third-place finals in the World Cup.

Josko Gvardiol opened the scoring for Croatia in the first half.

Morocco’s Achraf Dari rekindled his country’s home when he drew level with a sizzling goal to the back of the Croatian net.

However, just before the end of the second half in the 43rd minute, Croatia made it 2-1 through Mislav Orsic.

The first half ended with Croatia leading Morocco 2-1.

Croatia were runners-up at the last World Cup.

Both teams had met in a 0-0 match in their opening Group F match.

At their first encounter at the group stage on Wednesday, November 23, at the Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar, Croatia were held to a goalless draw by Morocco in front of 59,407 fans.

It has been a long World Cup campaign for both teams and the fatigue showed, with several players leaving the pitch injured.

Morocco, searching for an equalizer, almost pulled one back in the second half when Youssef En-Nesyri hammered one toward the goal.

Only a brilliant save from Dominik Livaković maintained Croatia’s slim lead.

After an exciting first half, which saw back-to-back goals in the early minutes of the match, the Atlas Lions sought the back of the net as the Vatreni fought to maintain their dominance on the pitch.
