Yoruba Actress Aunty Ajara Passes Away

Ajara Lasisi, who gained fame in Yoruba cinema under the stage name Aunty Ajara, has passed away.
She died in the early hours of Thursday, according to a confirmation from her family.
The announcement was made by her brother, Ridwan Lasisi, in an emotional video message shared publicly.
Speaking on behalf of the family, he expressed appreciation to colleagues and well-wishers for their support during her illness.
Ridwan also appealed to members of the public to stop sending financial donations that had earlier been requested for her medical treatment.
“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.
“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.
“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”
The actress’s health condition became public last week after her colleague, Ronke Oshodi-Oke, raised an alarm and appealed for assistance. Oshodi-Oke disclosed that Aunty Ajara was critically ill, dependent on oxygen support, and undergoing intensive medical care that required significant financial resources.
Aunty Ajara was well-known for her strong screen presence, often portraying motherly and authoritative roles in culturally rooted Yoruba films. Her film credits include Gingerrr, Queen Lateefah, and Isiti.
In 2024, the actress also opened up about a painful chapter in her life, revealing that she once lost a child.
