Five People Stabbed At Rabbi’s Home In Monsey, New York

No fewer than five people have been reportedly stabbed in a rabbi’s home in Monsey, New York, late Saturday evening.

Ramapo Police told reporters early Sunday that the NYPD had arrested a suspect in the stabbing.

The council said on Twitter that five patients with stab wounds were taken to local hospitals. All victims were Hasidic, and two of them were in critical condition, the organization said.

“One of the victims was stabbed at least 6 times. The fifth/least severe case had a cut in his hand,” the council tweeted.

The stabbing occurred at Rabbi Rottenburg’s Shul during a Hanukkah celebration, CBS New York reported.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted late Saturday night that the NYPD had ramped up police presence around houses of worship in heavily Jewish neighborhoods.

“Horrific. So many Jewish families in our city have close ties to Monsey. We cannot overstate the fear people are feeling right now,” he said. “I’ve spoken to longtime friends who, for the first time in their lives, are fearful to show outward signs of their Jewish faith.”
