Standard Bank Group Hosts Africa Investors’ Conference In London

Standard Bank Group is hosting Africa Investors’ Conference in London, United Kingdom on 20-22 June 20, 2017.

The three day event will be hosted by Standard Bank Group and ICBC Standard at the London office of the company. The three-day Africa Investors’ Conference will put investment in Africa under the spotlight. Attendees comprise of policymakers, international investors and African corporate from countries including Angola, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.

Now in its seventh year, the conference connects top policymakers and some of Africa’s most successful companies to international institutional investors seeking investment opportunities in Africa. The conference provides one-on-one engagement, small group business meetings, round table and ‘town hall’ speeches providing a platform to present a view of key opportunities and initiatives impacting policy certainty, fiscal consolidation and growth in Africa. Progress in these areas will be discussed by senior policymakers, corporate executives and representatives from labour.

Attending the AIC will be over 44 corporates from a broad range of sectors, including financial services, mining, construction, chemicals, hotels, leisure, telecoms, food and retail. An estimated 167 investors from over 90 companies have accepted to attend.

This bears out in recent deals concluded by Standard Bank, which are driving progress across the continent. In the key power and infrastructure sector, we have partnered with the Government of Uganda on the USD1.6 billion Karuma hydroelectric power plant that is set to transform the east African country’s economy and the lives of its people. Also, we acted as the sole lead arranger in providing a USD120 million financing package to the Zimbabwe Power Corporation, which will power up energy supply in Zimbabwe and the region. In the telecommunications sector, Standard Bank partnered with Liquid Telecom on their ZAR6.55 billion acquisition of Neotel to create the largest, independent pan-African fibre network, driving greater connection across Africa.
